About MCC Foundation

The Morgan Community College (MCC) Foundation was established in the early 1970’s with the primary goal of raising funds for scholarships to help provide financial support to students, removing financial barriers to support students of all income levels, and gain access to higher education.

The mission of the MCC Foundation is dedicated to securing financial resources for the growth and development of Morgan Community College and promoting a superior environment for learning. The MCC Foundation hosts an annual Gala which raised $201,000 in 2024.  This event, along with other giving opportunities such as scholarships and endowments provide resources for students at all MCC’s locations.

MCC Foundation Offices

MCC Foundation Offices are located in the historic Farmer's State Bank building at 300 Main Street in Fort Morgan, Colorado

The MCC Foundation is located in the historic Farmers State Bank building at 300 Main Street in Fort Morgan, CO.

Farmers State Bank was built and officially reopened in 1930 from its original design in 1919. The bank during that time incorporated the most modern ideas of bank architecture and planning. The bank was closed in the 1960s when the Bloedorn Family decided to build a new Farmers State Bank off the corner State and Kiowa in Fort Morgan.

A decade later, the first classes for Morgan Community College were held in the basement of the old Farmers State Bank on February 15, 1970. The building was put on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1990 and on April 20, 1998, was dedicated with its final name of “The Bloedorn Center for Community and Economic Development” to recognize the Bloedorn Family and Foundation for their many contributions and continual pride and interest in Morgan Community College and all the citizens of this area.

The building also houses the offices of the Fort Morgan Chamber of Commerce, the Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE), and the CACE Gallery of Fine Art.

MCC Foundation History

1970’s

The Foundation began not long after Morgan Community College was established. Early donors included Carl and Virginia Johnson, who contributed their dairy farm, where the first College President lived for several years. Helen Williams began her history of scholarship donations around this time period.

Originally, the Foundation met once a year for the annual meeting and the fundraising efforts included a Greater Gifts Committee that sponsored a scholarship fund drive. Today the Foundation has six board meetings a year with eleven members and three ex-officio members.

1980’s

$50,000 scholarship trust fund was established by HB Bloedorn, Chairman of Farmers State Bank of Fort Morgan. The Clark¬-Feather buildings were donated to the Foundation and used for a number of years for Adult Basic Education, the truck driving program, etc. Not much later these buildings were sold.

1990’s

Under college President John McKay and Foundation President Mike Berryhill, the Foundation expanded significantly and became more formalized. The first annual fundraising campaign was held in 1999, raising $147,000.

2000’s

The first Gala was hosted. Recent accomplishments include funding the construction of Cedar Hall, which houses the current Adult Basic Education programs, and raising $600,000 to equip and furnish the health/science wing remodeling and expansion. The Foundation received a $1.65 million pledge from the A.F. Williams Family Foundation to endow a chair for Radiologic Technology, making MCC the first community college in Colorado to have a university-model endowed chair position.

2010’s

The Foundation receives a $2.275 million pledge from the A.F. Williams Family Foundation to endow the college’s second endowed chair for the Bachelor in Science in Nursing Director position, making MCC the first and only community college in Colorado to have not only one, but two university model endowed chair positions.  The Foundation celebrated its 20th annual gala. Held at Wickham Tractor Company in Fort Morgan, the foundation raised over $100,000, with over $20,000 going towards our Capital Campaign for the Poplar Hall Agricultural Center for Innovation and Technology. The 21st Gala was held at Paradigm Fresh for the 50th Anniversary of MCC. The college also completed the Poplar Hall building which the Foundation was a part of from the beginning to the end, with the Poplar Hall Dedication in September 2020.

2020’s

The 25th Gala was held at Morgan County REA in February 2024 and raised over $201,000. The Dahms-Talton Center for Skilled Trades & Technology building was completed in fall 2024 with a $2.5m gift from the Dahms-Talton Foundation as a major contributor to the project.
