The Morgan Community College (MCC) Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship, the Dr. Jarrold Schaefer and Family Endowment Scholarship. The endowment will provide scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in MCC’s future Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree Program. The goal of the scholarship is to help support students who have an interest in remaining in northeastern Colorado to work after graduation.
Dr. Jarrold (Jarry) Schaefer and wife Sue Schaefer have been strong supporters of Morgan Community College (MCC) since 2003. Dr. Schaefer served on the MCC Foundation Board from 2008-2013, ending his tenure as President, and was a member of the Colorado Community College System Foundation Board from May 2015 until his passing in 2017. Dr. Schaefer served as the Chair for the MCC Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) Steering Committee, where he played an integral role in the creation of the MCC documentary, “Glenn Miller: The Birthplace of His Music.” The Schaefer family is honoring Jarry’s legacy by continuing their support of MCC and the community through this endowed scholarship, which will help educate generations of future healthcare providers.
“The lasting impact the Schaefer family created will be measured through the health and heartbeats of patients served by MCC students who benefited from this endowed scholarship,” said MCC President Dr. Curt Freed. Freed continued, “Jarry left an incredible legacy through his warmth and generosity toward Morgan Community College that is only matched by the same passion I’ve come to know in Sue. MCC will forever be grateful to have been touched by the love of Jarry and Sue.”
Dr. Jarry and Sue Schaefer will be honored at the 20th Annual MCC Foundation Gala, February 22, 2019 as the recipients of the 2019 Distinguished Donor Award. All proceeds from the Gala benefit Morgan Community College students and programs.
