Advising FAQ’s
Why is it important to meet with an Academic Advisor?
Advisors will help you select appropriate courses, review degree/certificate requirements and connect you with resources to help you achieve your educational goals.
How often should I meet with my Advisor?
What is the difference between an Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science, Associate of General Studies, and Certificates?
- Associate of Arts and Associate of Science (AA/AS) degrees are designed to transfer to a four-year college. MCC offers designated field degrees in many programs that make transferring even easier!
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees are designed to develop skills for entry-level employment or to upgrade skills to improve job opportunities within an existing position. An AAS is not designed to transfer to a four-year, although some classes may still transfer.
- Certificates are designed to develop skills for entry-level employment or emphasize skills in a particular area of study. Generally completed in under a year.
I tried to register for a class but couldn’t because of a prerequisite error. What does this mean?
Prerequisite errors pop up when you haven’t met the Math or English requirement to enroll in the course. It may also pop up if you have not taken a course that is required. Contact your advisor for assistance.
