Fort Morgan, Colo. – Morgan Community College is partnering with Tax Help Colorado, a program of Mile High United Way to offer hard-working families free tax preparation. Beginning February 2, 2022, IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and file tax returns free of charge to households with incomes of less than $57,000 a year.
Free tax prep helps ease the burden of commercial tax preparation costs on low-wage earners and helps connect families with valuable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is worth up to $6,700 for the 2021 tax year. On average, tax preparation in Colorado costs $200.
“Many of our clients have been coming to MCC for tax preparation for multiple years. They are thankful and appreciative of the service we provide,” stated Leah Thomas, MCC Agriculture and Business Management Faculty and Tax-site coordinator. “Our clients and volunteers return each year because they see the benefit of the program. It is as rewarding to those preparing the returns as it is for those who come to us to prepare their returns.”
This free service will be offered at Morgan Community College, 920 Barlow Road, Fort Morgan on Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 1- March 3, 2022, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling (970) 542-5415, Monday-Friday between 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Visit www.morgancc.edu/taxhelp for more details.
