The Morgan Community College (MCC) Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) announces an upcoming concert featuring the renowned Greeley Chorale. This special performance will take place on October 21, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, located at 117 East Bijou Avenue in Fort Morgan. The event is open to the community and is free of charge.
Founded in 1964 with around 40 voices, The Greeley Chorale is a chorus of more than 100 members of a variety of ages and backgrounds. In June, the Chorale toured Portugal and Spain, presenting concerts in Lisbon, Seville, Granada and Madrid. They also toured Toledo and Barcelona. It was the Chorale’s 10th international concert tour since 1985.
“We are delighted to perform in Fort Morgan and I’m sure each audience member will find at least one work that speaks to them,” stated Dr. Galen Darrough, Artistic Director. The performance will focus on female composers, ranging from the 18th to the 21st century. “The contributions of female composers through the years is considerable, but yet has been largely ignored,” said Darrough. “Our earliest work is by Marianna Martines, who studied keyboard with Franz Joseph Haydn as a young girl.”
Other featured music will include works by Emma Lou Diemer, Alice Parker, Rosephanye Powell, Sarah Quartel, Eleanor Daley, Cecilia McDowall and Elaine Hagenberg. These compositions vary from classical to sacred, such as Dixit Dominus by Martines, to The Girl I Left Behind Me, an Irish tune arranged by Alice Parker.
“We are thrilled to host the Greeley Chorale for this unforgettable evening of music,” stated MCC CACE Coordinator, Suzanna Spears. “The Chorale’s exceptional talent will create a wonderful experience for our community.”
MCC CACE offers many free enrichment opportunities throughout the year. For more information about CACE events, contact CACE Coordinator Suzanna Spears at (970) 542-3180 or [email protected]. Additional information about CACE is available at www.morgancc.edu./CACE.
